The Kitchen Hangover

Sometimes I don't shine my sink. I don't finish all of the cleanup at night. Most days I do, but on Saturday night, after a full day of relaxing and spending time with my family (which causes lots of extra dishes & stuff), my hubby and I like to have a movie night. And when it's already late and we don't want it to get any later, I leave things out.

Oh, I'll pack my dishwasher, and put away any food that's out. And even do an extra 5 minutes on top of that.

This is where I found this funny photo.

I woke up to this today. I call it my Kitchen Hangover.

It's a good thing I know how to use my timer. I'll go as fast as I can for 15 minutes and see what a difference I can make.

15 minutes really does a lot.

  1. I know what you mean. I have not gotten into this flylady stuff yet, but it sounds good. I like to attack the kitchen Sunday mornings too. Shabbat dishes are a bit of a killer - especially if you don't have a dish washer machine. I was wondering if others had this problem too! Kitchen hangover! What a perfect name for it. haha

  2. there are mornings that i wake up and the only clean thing in my kitchen, or house for that matter, is my sink. and there are other mornings when not even that is done. i really liked your 15 min post, i've started looking at cleaning in a whole new light. 15 mins here, 15 mins there. i even took before and after pictures, for me-i'm not as brave to post them online, but it helped me to realize that i'd made a difference. and that any mess that fits into the view of my camera can be tackled in 15 mins or less. since i'm a stay at home momma, i try to squeeze 15mins every hour or 2. so i don't get bogged down. it's made a significant difference in my house. and i don't feel as overwhelmed.

  3. Tiffany-if you can do 15 minutes even more than once a day, you are way ahead of me! I'm just trying to get regular with doing it ONCE a day. I finally figured out that even if I can't do 15, I can do 5. And then do that 3 times. It really does make a difference!

Nicole-I used to DREAD Shabbat cleanup. I do love my dishwasher but didn't always have one so I understand. Do you have a big dishpan they can soak in? If you scrub them well and they sit in soapy water, they won't take long. And you can hide the dishpan under the sink (empty it out so you have a place for it & don't have to look at the dishes)!
